The Law Affordable care act (ACA), commonly known as Obamacare, is a federal law that allows individuals and families access to plans private health insurance through the health Insurance Marketplace (Healthcare.gov). Those who qualify may receive Tax credits for Premiums (APTC) that significantly reduce the monthly costs according to their annual income and the number of people in your family.

The plans of the ACA are available during the Open Enrollment period (from 1 November to 15 January), or at any time of the year if there is a qualifying life event — for example, losing a job that offered insurance, getting married or welcoming a new child.
By law, all plans of the ACA must cover 10 health benefits essential: doctor visits, hospitalization, maternity, mental health, prescription drugs, lab services, preventive care, rehabilitation, pediatric services, and emergency care.

The plans of the ACA is divided into four levels of "metal" depending on how you share the cost between the insurer and the insured. The choice depends on the frequency of use of medical services and their income:

Important note: Only the level plans Silver (Silver) qualify for subsidies to reduce Cost-Sharing (CSR), which can lower your deductible and co-payments. For low-income families, a Silver plan may cost less in total than one Bronze.

HMO vs. PPO: What's the difference?

  • Maintenance Organization (HMO Health): Requires a primary care physician and referrals to specialists. Network smaller, lower premium.

  • PPO (Preferred Provider Organization): Gives you freedom to visit any doctor or specialist directly, whether or not in the network, without the need for prior authorization.

  • HDHP Plan (High Deductible): High deductible, low premium rate. Compatible with HSAS to save money tax-free for medical expenses.

Frequently asked questions about Obamacare

Who is eligible to enroll in Obamacare?

Any person living legally in the united states. UU. can be applied: citizens, legal permanent residents and holders of certain types of visa. The plans of the Market are not available to persons without legal immigration status.

How much is Obamacare?

When is the registration period?

Open Enrollment is from November 1 to January 15. If you have a qualifying life event (loss of job, marriage, birth of a child or moving), you can enroll at any time of the year.

Does cover pre-existing conditions?

Yes. By law, no plan for the ACA can deny coverage or charge more for conditions such as diabetes, cancer, high blood pressure or asthma. All the plans of the federal Marketplace must comply with this rule without exception.

Does cover dental services?

The plans of the ACA generally do not include dental coverage for adult by default (the dental pediatric itself is included for children under age 19). We recommend to add a dental plan separately.

Can I get Obamacare if in own-account work?

Yes. It is one of the best options for independent workers (freelancers) as it is not dependent on an employer. You may qualify for subsidies based on their net income.
